The Barrett’s of Wimpole Street

A little bit of crazy

On Friday night we went to watch The Barrett’s of Wimpole Street,  It was the latest play that Wayne, a friend of mine was acting in at the Masque Theatre in Muizenberg. The play is set in 1875, so the women get to wear those amazing Victorian princess dresses with hoops that I absolutely love. It’s also a bit of a romance as you see Elizabeth Barrett, who struggles to walk because of injury is kind of swept off her feet by Robert Browning. Elizabeth writes poetry and he makes contact with her to meet her because of the poems she has written. […]

Contentment: Being happy with where I am at now

A little bit of crazy

The other day I was scrolling through Facebook. I kind of just swipe the screen without really looking at things just to pass time. All of a sudden a picture caught my eye and I read the caption above it. It said, “Do you think back on your wedding day and remember everything that could have been different or the joy the day held” There was something in that statement that can be used about anything in life. Have you ever looked back on a birthday, afternoon tea with friends or family and thought “oh, that could have been different, […]

Creamy Chicken Pasta

A little bit of Crazy

Last weekend I was feeling a bit adventurous in the kitchen so I decided to make something with what we had in the fridge. I was going to make carbonara but  changed my mind because I wanted something different. I knew I had to use the cream we had because it was about to go off, so I kind of went with it and added a bunch of random stuff. It turned out amazing! Ingredients two chicken breasts – cut into cubes 250ml cream 1 small onion diced 1 clove garlic crushed +/- 10 baby tomatoes halved half a punnet […]

Date Night at Brick Lane Eatery

A little bit of crazy

Earlier this week I said to David that I wanted an adventure and the next thing I knew I had a calendar invite that said “Bub’s and Noo need an adventure”. When I got home I asked him what we were doing he said we’re going to watch a movie Canal Walk.  I was looking through the The Entertainer for something else and I saw a restaurant in Century City had been added called Brick Lane Eatery. I suggested it to David and he was keen to try it, especially since they had some fancy sounding burgers on the menu. We found […]

The MOST amazing burgers ever!

A little bit of crazy

David has always been really good at making burgers, but last night he took it to a whole new level of awesomeness.  I messaged him in the afternoon and asked him what he wanted for supper and he replied “banting burgers”. I then suggested we try using those giant mushrooms as buns. When we skip the roll we often just use lettuce and it’s often so disappointing. It’s also like we’re just eating meat balls and lettuce for supper. He totally agreed and went to the shop to get these giant mushrooms.  I got to help with the putting together […]

Beautifully made

A little bit of crazy

I read a blog post by Jessica N. Turner tiled “Moms, Put on That Swimsuit” over the weekend.  In a nutshell Jessica writes about how moms should not be afraid to put on their swimsuits and be seen on the beach in them. She then goes on to say that when mom’s “hide” and don’t splash in the waves with their children they are portraying a negative body image to their children.  My favourite line from her post is “Your swimsuit does not define you” because it is SO true. Body image is something that I struggle with and when it […]

White fish fillets with apple sauce

A little bit of crazy in the kitchen

David bought me this recipe book, (Traditional Cooking Vorarlberg: The region’s best original recipes by Hubert Krenn VerlagsgesmbH)  while he was in Austria last month. It has some yummy recipes in it, as well as a few strange ones. I was feeling a bit creative in the cooking area so I asked David to pick out a recipe for me to try and he chose this one: White fish fillets with apple horseradish sauce. I don’t like horseradish so I left it out. Ingredients 8 – 12 white fish fillets, (I used hake) salt, pepper Lemon juice butter one apple […]

We “kind of” got a cat

Katherine bodmer a little bit of crazy

Last Friday evening we “kind of” adopted Mimi. Mimi is a cat who belongs to one of the ladies who also rents where we rent. She spends a lot of time on set in Johannesburg, she’s a costume designer. There was another lady where we stay who was looking after her but she moved out which is why we now have Mimi. David and I are quite excited about letting Mimi stay, even though she is very needy and has to sit on you all the time. I’m also secretly happy that she prefers David over me. There’s only so […]

Home Affairs – passport application

a little bit of crazy

On Saturday I went to apply for my new passport and it really was not as painful as I imagined it to be. We planned to be there at 7am to start queuing but it was freezing on Saturday morning so we only arrived at Home Affairs Cape Town at 8:20am. The queue was not as long as I thought it would be, we ended up being 57th in the queue. I have heard horror stories of the queue going around the building by that time. I have also heard from other people that they were in and out in […]

Weekends are for connecting

A little bit of crazy connection

WOW! The weekend went past quite quickly, but it was really good. It was busy but busy in a way that allowed David and myself space to connect with people and each other. Connecting with people is one of my favourite things to do. Sometimes I feel like life can get SO busy that we end up only seeing our friends once in blue moon. This results in us ending up missing each other, as well as everything that is happening in our lives. This happens a bit too often for me, where I miss people but I really want to and […]
