I’m busy reading Katie Davis book, Kisses from Katie. Her story is really amazing, you can read more about her and her ministry here. On Saturday while I was reading I was really challenged by something she said and after thinking it through I totally agree with here. Katie said, “God always gives you more than you can handle so that His glory can be shown“.
I have a bit of a background where the saying; “God never gives you more than you can handle” is a common expression. Actually this is not true. If God never gave us more than we can handle then who is in control? We are. Who does what we’re doing become about when it’s the right amount of “stuff” for us to handle? Us. If what we’re doing/ being called to is way more than what we can do or cope with in our own strength then it becomes all about God. In this space – where we feel totally overwhelmed, is where we get the opportunity to surrender all control to God and allow Him to take over. This is where people get to see how God can work through you and what He can actually do. 2 Corinthians 12:9 says; “Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.” and Philippians 4:13 says “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” Even God’s word reminds us that with Him we can do anything. I’m not saying God will simply put through us into the deep end with way more than we can cope with – He doesn’t want to break us but He definitely wants to stretch us and grow us. He will also get into the water with us when we feel like we’re drowning and will swim the last bit with us.
I’ve decided to change my thinking to be more in line with this and when I feel overwhelmed with what God is calling me to I’m going to tap into Him for His strength. If He’s calling me to it I doubt very much He’s going to drop me in the middle of it, because I know God never leaves me. Instead of saying to God, “there’s not way I can do that” I’m going to attempt new leaps of faith with Him and say, “show me and guide me how.” and then jump with full abandon into what He’s calling me into.
The next time I’m struggling with life being overwhelming you can totally remind me of this post and I’m standing on Gods truth of always being in control and how He always give us more than we can handle so His glory can be seen.
